The Catholic Committee on Scouting Archdiocese of Los Angeles (CCSALA) sponsored the 20th Annual Scout Retreat on September 30 - October 2, 2011, at Veterans Park in Sylmar, CA.

Each of the nearly 200 Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Venture Crew Members, parents and adult leaders received a special Retreat XX patch featuring the theme "Mission" and the patron saint Blessed Junipero Sera.

The scout religious award presentation mass at the Los Angeles Cathedral was held on May 15, 2011.Last Sunday I presided at the event listed below. I think a record number received the award (record for this Cathedral) and these are fine young people who are involved in their community and church through Scouting. Monsignor Kevin Kostelnik presided over the event, which honored a record number of scouts receiving the Ad Altare Dei, Pope Pius XII, and Chi Rho awards.

From throughout the Archdiocese, Scouters gathered at the quite and serene Camp Rancho Alegre. It is located above Santa Barbara and across from Lake Cachuma. They came as Catholics who have been in Scouting for a few years, or were considering to become involved in Scouting again. They left with a better understanding of leadership, holiness and a commitment to Catholic Scouting.
