Catholic Scout Retreat XVI - 2007
The Catholic Committee on Scouting Archdiocese of Los Angeles (CCSALA) sponsored their 16th Annual Scout Retreat on September 29, 30 and 31, 2007 at Veterans Park in Sylmar, CA.
Each of the 400 Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, Venture Crew Members, parents and adult leaders received a special Retreat XVI patch featuring the theme Perseverance and the Patron Saint Monica.

Fred Heithaus - In Memoriam

With much sadness, we inform everyone of the passing of a dear friend, Fred Heithaus. Fred went home to be be with the Lord on Monday, July 16, 2007.
Fred was a long time member of the Los Angeles Area Council and Catholic Committeec on Scouting for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles as well as the National Catholic Committee on Scouting.
He served Scouting in many different capacities, but one of the positions he cherished most was that of Scoutmaster. He held the position of Chair of both the Los Angeles Area Council and Archdiocesan Catholic Committee on Scouting, Subcommittee Chair of Scouter Development and Religious Emblems in the Council Committee and Archdiocesan Religious Emblems Chair for many years.
He was an active member of the Religious Emblem and Scouter Development Committee on the National Catholic Committee on Scouting. He was closely tied to the current "Scouter Development: Lay Apostolate Formation For Scouting" Program.
Life is not ended, but only changed...

81st Annual Religious Emblem Presention
May 20, 2007
This year, a total of 80 youth were awarded the Ad Altare Dei emblem
and 34 youth received the Pope Pius XII emblem.

Pack 105, Goleta, Recipient of the Gold Medallion Award
December, 2006
Cub Scout Pack 105external link, Los Padres Council, chartered by St. Raphael's Church in Goleta has been selected by the National Catholic Committee on Scouting as the best Catholic sponsored Pack in Region 11, which includes California, Nevada, Hawaii and Guam.
National Gold Medallion winners epitomize those units that excel at providing youth with quality programs including religious activities, religious emblems participation, outdoor activities, and special events that encompass the religious, vocational, and educational aspects of Scouting under Catholic auspices.
This was an exceptionally rewarding recognition for Pack 105 after being the runner-up in 2005's competition.
Congratulations to all the leaders and Scouts that made this recognition possible.
Catholic Scout Retreat XV
October 6-8, 2006
The Catholic Committee on Scouting for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles
conducted its 15th annual Scout Retreat on October 6-8, 2006, at
Veterans Park in Sylmar, California. This was the second highest
attendance ever, with 572 Scouts and Scouters attending the
2-day/2-night event.
We were blessed with wonderful weather and a great group of Scouts and Scouters, which all made for a great weekend.

Twelve Points Bike Ride in Scouting Magazine

Last February, members of the Catholic Committee on Scouting in the
Ventura County Council
organized its annual Twelve Point Bike Ride.
The ride consisted of slightly more than 13 miles through the streets of Simi Valley and neighboring communities. There were scheduled stops at nine houses of worship and three parks. At each stop, speakers would relate their religious beliefs to one of the 12 points of the Scout Law.
This year's event is featured in the September 2006 issue of Scouting magazine.
Religious Emblems Presentation Mass - 2006

A total of 153 Boy Scouts were awarded their religious emblems at a special Mass held on May 21, 2006 in the Cathedral. The total includes 119 boys who earned the Ad Altare Dei emblem and 36 young men and women from Scout Troops and Venture Crews around the Archdiocese who were awarded the prestigious Pope Pius XII emblem.
The Ad Altare Dei emblem, a program that involves the study of the seven sacraments, originated in the Archdiocese of Los Angelese and was first awarded in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles in 1926. It has since been promoted by the National Catholic Committee on Scouting.
Monsignor Kevin Kostelnik, pastor of the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, was also recognized by the Catholic Committee on Scouting, Archdiocese of Los Angeles, with the highly prized St. George Emblem, which is awarded to adults leaders who have made a significant contribution to the Catholic Scouting movement among our youth.
